Service and giving back
Finally!! We are in the final stages of setting up our non-profit! These are very exciting days for us and the people around us! Its been a long way coming since we first received the inspiration. Kicking and screaming, we pushed through many fears and pushed ourselves to get affiliated and in close contact with different Gurus, teachers, shamans, facilitators and other legal advisers; always keeping a clear perspective of what resonated and what didn't, always keeping an open mind about our experiences while we prepared and developed our-Selves; always keeping in mind what it means for us and our families to move fwd in this inspired direction. There has been a lot of variables and tons of aspects to consider, from locations, to services and their proper structure, introduction and presentation etc...
Seva is the basic backbone of every activity within our organization
“Seva” is a Sanskrit word meaning “selfless service” or work performed without any thought of reward or repayment. In ancient India seva was believed to help one's spiritual growth and at the same time contribute to the improvement of a community.
Whether it is Kamachi or Minka (from the Q'ero) or Mitakuye Oyas'in (from the Lakota) or Seva (from Sanskrit), they all seem to cater to the need of giving back to our society, giving back to our community and ultimately, achieving higher levels of inner peace and happiness through taking care of all of our relationships without expecting anything back.
The first program we are putting in place is called "Bread, Milk and honey" (BMH program), becoming affiliated with the different food banks in a 50 mile radius. The plan is to go to our local temples and churches to promote our program where we will deliver 200 pounds of food every week for free. We plan to make soup kitchens once a week as well as making home deliveries of essentials to families who need help. We will assist our neighbors with these basic needs while encouraging them to learn more about new dynamic ways to find joy, love and abundance in their every day life.
Our second program is called "Live, work, play" (LWP program). The focus of this great program is helping our homeless community finding shelter and jobs. We are planning awareness rallies and fund raisers involving our local businesses and city offices, creating new programs to help those in need of shelter and jobs. Allocating most of the raised funds to local shelters to provide better services. And finally, setting a process for rehabilitating the homeless who want to re-incorporate into society as well as education and training programs for a seamless transition back into the job market and work life!
We are convinced that the first step in making a positive impact in our community is to cover the community's basic needs: Shelter, clothing and food. Once those needs are taken care off, we can focus on finding financial stability. Our focus throughout this work, is to practice our philosophies and to encourage our brothers into moving into the understanding of more subtle needs like emotional balance. Finally we are very excited to find more and more people and volunteers who share this vision and who are working with us to make these programs a reality!
